Member Spotlight: B & D Marketing
While building his discount retail business, Donald Moore discovered what many small Internet businesses face: Accepting credit cards with a typical merchant account can be expensive. As he says, "By the time you get through paying the fees, you’re broke."

Moore also wanted a secure form of payment that would give peace of mind to both him and his customers. With no set-up or monthly fees, and low transaction rates, PayPal was the affordable, fast, and secure solution for B & D Marketing. Moore also took advantage of PayPal’s free shopping cart software. The money he saved by using PayPal helped him to grow B & D Marketing into a successful business.

Today, all of B & D Marketing’s online retail transactions are done via PayPal - which makes up about 35% of its total business. Moore also believes PayPal has brought more customers to his website. "Offering PayPal has allowed us to reach customers who would not have shopped with us."

There’s another secret to the success of B & D Marketing: excellent customer service. "In order to be successful in business," Moore says, "you need to treat your customers like you would want to be treated… the old golden rule." He believes a little extra work pays off in customer goodwill and long-term loyalty.

B & D Marketing sells a real variety of merchandise: From stainless steel cookware and kitchen gadgets, to leather luggage and samurai swords. To shop their discount prices, visit them at http://www.bdmarketing.com/.

Member Spotlight: Monarch Computer Systems
Founded in 1991 as a computer parts distributor, Monarch Computer Systems has since become a builder of custom computer systems for the general public, government, and educational institutions. This award-winning company had grown successfully without PayPal, but wanted a payment system that would allow customers to place orders with ease and confidence.

"Customers would ask us why we didn’t take PayPal and how could they more easily pay by personal check," says Andrew Levy, Monarch's Chief Financial Officer. "Our customers loved the idea of being able to pay by check through PayPal." Also, many of Monarch’s customers are eBay sellers who already have money in their PayPal accounts. "All they have to do at checkout is verify their identity with PayPal, and the order’s done. It’s just that easy!"

More than a great service for its customers, PayPal is a great supplement to Monarch’s business. "The PayPal website is great for managing our business," says Levy. "From the beginning, we knew that there were different management tools to choose from to make the PayPal order/fulfillment process work for us." Since Monarch began accepting PayPal ten months ago, 10% of their business volume is now represented by PayPal. But the true measure of success, according to Levy, is "a level of customer satisfaction that has made us very proud."

Employee Spotlight: The Content-Design Team
When using PayPal, have you ever wondered who wrote all the words? Who designed the icons? Or, why PayPal is so easy to use? Well, it comes from the hard work of PayPal's Content-Design team.

This colorful bunch of writers and designers share two things in common: To make PayPal a great user experience, and to have fun doing it. Their desks are often sprinkled with toys, art, and fun gadgets. At times their work area is filled with laughter and chatter, and sometimes you could hear a pin drop (especially before deadlines). Once a week, they pry themselves from their workstations for "tea time" to socialize, and enjoy a homemade treat.

This team's many talents extend outside of the office as well; each member has a unique gift. Michael M. plays the mandolin in a bluegrass band, while Michael S. sings in a rock band. Carol is an aspiring screenwriter, Dantley is in the Army reserves, Emily illustrates children's books, Ann plays soccer… the list goes on and on. Recently, some team members took part in a local community service role model program, helping kids to realize their dreams.

The PayPal Content-Design team began small, with just a handful of members. But, as PayPal grew, the team grew with it. Ann Ku, a web designer, has been with the team for almost four years. "Even with the rapid growth of PayPal, the Content-Design team has maintained its unique energy and extraordinary teamwork... it makes me want to come to work every day."
